Our deliveries are an important part of our business and it is essential we provide a hot lunch that is still piping hot as if it came straight from your kitchen. The key is the equipment we use, and the delivery slots allocated between 12 noon and 1:30. This allows the food to stay at the serving temperature we require and addresses all food safety requirements.
The equipment we use is an industry proven food distribution system which is functional and hygienic especially created for hot food deliveries. It consists of an insulation box which protects the food during transportation, is lightweight, robust and completely insulated, allowing the food to stay hot for three hours. The boxes are easily cleaned and can be put into the dishwasher and they also can be stored simply by stacking them. The boxes consist of sections to house the china plate, dessert and soup bowls. All crockery is of excellent quality with a hard glaze for toughness. All crockery is fitted with a silicone lid which protects the box and the food on the plate. Our plates can withstand extreme temperatures between -40 and up +200 degrees centigrade making them multi-functional.
As you can imagine this equipment is very expensive and is the biggest cost to our business. That’s why it is important we collect the plates and lids regularly so that we can continue to provide our hot lunches. Please call us if we have forgotten to pick up your crockery or box.
We have a team of dedicated people who are all part of the Eggardon Country Cooks ethos which is to provide excellent customer service with a smile every time!
Our drivers firstly must have a good knowledge of the local area, enabling them to get around easily. The majority have care or care home experience or worked in the care sector which helps them gain an understanding of our customers. We aim to have all drivers DBS checked so that you can have confidence in our drivers who sometimes must enter your home to deliver lunches. We provide all drivers with a branded fleece and name badge, so you know who they are when they arrive at your door.
So that we can gain continuity with the deliveries we also have a team of bank drivers who step in if someone is sick or cannot work on a specific day.
The areas we cover are:
Lyme Regis / Axminster, Beaminster / Mosterton, West Bay / Burton Bradstock/Abbotsbury, Maiden Newton/ Cattistock, Poundbury/ Dorchester and all the rural villages between these areas. All routes are allocated a driver who has a maximum of 10 drops per route enabling them to achieve the hour and half delivery time.
For many years we have offered free delivery for our Lovey Lunches but over the last year the economy has dramatically changed with a massive increase of food and fuel, so it is no longer viable for us to offer free delivery on every lunch we produce. Reluctantly, from the 1st November 2021 we will have no alternative but to charge 6% (65p) for all one-off orders ordered over the website or over the phone. Our rationale is that one-off orders incur the most cost to us as we are initially delivering the lunch on one day and then having to make a special journey to collect plates the next day. This is as opposed to delivering and collecting on the same day as with our regular orders. This charge will be costed on one – order and not the amount of individual lunches made during that single transaction. Any issues about delivery charges please call us at the kitchen and one of our staff will be happy to explain this change in our terms of operating. 01308 485115.
